The European Court of Auditors is conducting an audit of EU action to improve the mobility of people in cities and densely populated areas. The auditors are examining how the European Commission and Member States use the EU funding available to put into action their urban mobility policies and whether the Commission provides effective support to Member States. The auditors will also assess the progress that has been made in recent years in managing traffic congestion.

Yesterday evening the European Commission announced the winners of the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Awards 2018, and the 7th Award for Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) at a ceremony in Brussels (Belgium). 

Lisbon was revealed as the winner of the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award 2018 for larger municipalities, with Lindau taking home the award for smaller municipalities. The 7th SUMP Award was won by Greater Manchester.  Click on the following video links to view this years finalists in action:

Planning for Sustainable and Active Cities: 17-18 June 2019, Groningen, The Netherlands

The 6th edition of the European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans will be held on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 June 2019 in Groningen, The Netherlands. The focus of the conference is on providing support to sustainable and active cities within the SUMP context, i.e. how to make cities more walkable and cycle-friendly.

CIVITAS SUMPs-Up has opened a call for cities to take part in its next SUMP Learning Programme (SLP). This will focus on SUMP implementation, financing and procurement. The application deadline is 12.00 CET on 11 January 2019.

Safer City Streets, the worldwide traffic safety network for liveable cities recently published its first global benchmark of urban road safety. The data, collected from 31 cities in 20 countries reveals striking differences in road safety performance between cities.
