Transport Research International Documentation database launched

The TRID (Transport Research International Documentation) database has been launched and allows free search of more than 900,000 records from around the world. It combines the ITRD and TRIS databases.
The OECD Joint Transport Research Centre’s International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) has collected its data into the ITRD database, a co-operative worldwide database of published information on transport and transport research. ITRD contains more than 400,000 bibliographical references and grows by around 10,000 per year.

€ 67 million available for new Intelligent Energy – Europe projects

The new IEE call for project proposals is open. In 2012, there will be € 67 million available for funding.
The new IEE call for project proposals is open. In 2012, there will be € 67 million available for funding. Applicants are asked to submit ideas for projects in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, clean transport and local energy investments.

The call closes on 8 May 2012 for all types of actions except the Build Up Skills initiative which has different deadlines.

Road Safety Programme plans technical measures to increase road safety in Germany

Germany wants to reduce the number of people killed in traffic by 40% by 2020 and to ensure a drastic decline in the number of serious and most serious injuries on the roads. Measures to achieve this are outlined in the “2011 Road Safety Programme”.
In 2010, 3,648 people died in traffic accidents in Germany which is the lowest number ever recorded. The country’s road safety programme pools all current and planned measures for achieving greater safety on German roads. In November, it was released and presented by the Minister of Transport, Peter Ramsauer.

Call for applications for Sustainable Energy Europe Awards

The call for the annual Sustainable Energy Europe Awards is open. Applications can be sent until 29 February 2012.
The Sustainable Energy Europe Awards recognise the best initiatives in the fields of sustainable energy and energy efficiency. As the high point of the European Union Sustainable Energy Week (18-22 June 2012) the Awards bring to light the most outstanding, ambitious and innovative projects in sustainable energy and energy efficiency.

Young men four times more likely to die on EU roads than young women

The latest Road Safety Performance Index (PIN) Flash reveals that young people face the highest risks of dying while on the road: 140,000 young people aged 15 to 30 have lost their lives on European roads since 2001; 9,150 of them in 2010.
The PIN Flash also reveals that young males are a group particularly at risk, making up 81% of the young people killed on EU roads.

Time is running out for tackling climate change

Extreme warnings about the consequences of delaying action to tackle climate change have come from two sources in the last month.
“The time to act is now.” This is the clear message of two new reports about energy demand and supply projections and resulting levels of greenhouse gases and temperature rises published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the US Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC).
