Hong Kong geographer wins 2012 Young Researcher of the Year Award

Dr. Wing Yee Winnie Lam, a Chinese national, is the winner of the International Transport Forum’s 2012 Young Researcher of the Year Award. The International Transport Forum honours outstanding contributions to transport policy-making.

Dr. Lam, who is a researcher in the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong, received the prestigious award for her paper entitled “Building a seamless transport system through walking”.

TRKC becomes TRIP at www.transport-research.info!

Transport Research & Innovation Portal (TRIP) is the new name given to the former Transport Research Knowledge Centre (TRKC). Created in 1997, the initiative currently funded by DG MOVE under the 7FP strongly contributes to wide dissemination and promotion of transport research and innovation.

EC launches consultation on strategy to reduce injuries caused by road traffic

The European Commission launched a public consultation on the EU strategy to reduce injuries resulting from road traffic accidents. The consultation period runs from 17 April until 22 June.
Road safety strategies traditionally focus on reducing fatalities. Injuries, however, are overlooked and have become a major health problem. In 2010, about 1,500,000 people were injured on the roads of the European Union, at huge economic and human cost to society.

Tool for transferring mobility management knowledge now available on Eltis

The latest tool available to download from Eltis is an evaluation of policy transfer within Local Travel Plan Networks (LTPN) produced as part of the IEE funded Travel Plan Plus project.
This guide is aimed at policy makers and implementers with an interest in taking a mobility management idea from one place or time and implementing it in another. It is also aimed at policy makers and implementers of mobility management measures who would like to understand more about the influence, context and the impact of idea sharing when implementing Local Travel Plan Networks.

TNO presents app to analyse travel behaviour and needs (The Netherlands)

TNO has developed a prototype application to collect individual travel information that can help to organise traffic in a more effective, reliable and safe way.
To complement traffic information gathered by sensors and cameras, the FileAlarm (‘Traffic jam alarm’ in English) app allows greater insights into the way people travel, including their chosen routes, transport modes and departure planning.

Shortlist for 2012 Young Researcher Award announced

International Transport Forum, an intergovernmental organisation for the transport sector that comprises 53 countries, will honour outstanding research on transport connectivity with its 2012 Young Researcher of the Year Award.
The International Transport Forum at the OECD has announced the names and projects of candidates shortlisted for the 2012 Young Researcher of the Year Award. From applications representing 11 different nationalities, the jury has shortlisted the following three (in alphabetical order):
