Definition – A community can be defined as a group of people living in the same place, such as the people within a city district; or a group of people with a particular characteristic in common, such as a religious community or a special interest groupinfo-icon (e.g. the local cycling community). In some cases a formal local community organisation or local interest groupinfo-icon is formed, made up of interested individuals (often volunteers). Such groups may represent the wider community in the planning process.

Relevance to SUMP – Local community organisations, local interest groups and cycling/walking groups are identified in the SUMP Guidelines as typical stakeholderinfo-icon groups that should be involved through the SUMP participationinfo-icon process.
