SUMP development and implementation: The importance of training

By Ella Andrew / Updated: 23 Jun 2020

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) concept was introduced by the European Commission in 2013, as a tool to encourage the shift towards more sustainable modes of transport. A second edition of the SUMP guidelines was released in October 2019, marking a new era for SUMP training opportunities.

Training and planning are essential elements of SUMP development and implementation. Several training opportunities are available for local practitioners, from online courses to self-assessment tools. Amongst the many free resources, Eltis provides Mobility Plan resources, which include detailed information about SUMP processes, as well as helpful training materials.
