The “CIVITAS Legacy” awards rewards a city that has translated its commitment to the CIVITAS network and sustainable mobility into high-impact, innovative measures and inspires other cities for action. The winner of the CIVITAS Legacy Award 2020 is Funchal, in Portugal.

Funchal has been involved in CIVITAS since 2008, with active participation in CIVITAS projects, PAC and other activities of the CIVITAS community. The city has also demonstrated;

• An aptitude to recognise and employ new technologies and a testing bed for the implementation of several innovative measures (e.g. automatic traffic counters), combined with comprehensive monitoring of the measures introduced.
• Implementation of traffic restriction policies and the closing of streets in the city core.
