CIVITAS Legacy Award 2020 Finalist - Aachen, Germany

By Fiona Twisse / Updated: 29 Sep 2020

The “CIVITAS Legacy” awards rewards a city that has translated its commitment to the CIVITAS network and sustainable mobility into high-impact, innovative measures and inspires other cities for action.

The city of Aachen has been involved in CIVITAS since 2011, with a very active role in the German-speaking CIVINET (making an effort to ensure its continuity) as well as participation in CIVITAS projects (incl. as coordinator - CIVITAS DYN@MO). Over the years the city has implemented numerous measures (incl. bold measures like its policy on business trips) and many of them have a long-lasting impact (e.g. its pedelec sharing system “Velocity”, safe cycle lanes, a network of “Premium Ways” for pedestrians). The city has also demonstrated a significant commitment to cross-border and international collaborations to promote sustainable urban mobility.
