
The way in which urban road space is managed is key to influencing the way that people travel. There is a wealth of experience on innovative traffic management schemes that have rebalanced the use of road space away from the private car and towards public transport, cycling and walking. In this training material case studies of bus priority schemes and their effects, as well as at tools for redesigning arterial urban streets which are often the most problematic because of their functions both as places and as routes for through traffic are looked at.
