A Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) is a strategic plan to satisfy the mobility needs in cities for a better quality of life. It builds on existing planning practices and takes due consideration of integration, participation, and evaluation principles. In this material a focus is set on the question “Why do we need SUMPs?”. Furthermore, the transport policy development process in 3 stages is shown as well as the differences between conventional transport planning vs. SUMP.
