Clean and energy-efficient vehicles, such as hybrid/electric buses and cars, aim to reduce greenhouse and other pollutant emissions, fuel consumption and fossil fuel dependency.
Exhaust gas treatment systems, alternative drive trains and the use of alternative fuels and energy storage systems can improve the environmental record of vehicles. Besides technical interventions, promotional and procurement initiatives can accelerate the uptake of low-emission vehicles.

I have created a survey intended for individuals and organizations, who are concerned with Sustainable Mobility and Urban Development. The survey seeks to gain key insights into which factors best support change (modal shift) in cities, by better understanding the priorities, strategies and experiences of all who are concerned with this topic.

Our SUMOSU STATION project –EIP SCC 5575- , which includes its own material infrastructure, proposes a roadmap for a Strategic Integration Plan (SIP) to contemporary cities which merges both their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans and their Action Plans for Sustainable Energy. Up until now, these two key urban planning tools on their own have been unsuccessful at reducing both traffic congestion and CO2 emissions in big metropolis, however, we are convinced that, when combined together in this new approach (SIP), they can solve sustainable mobility problems as well as the power challenges of a quick connection to smart grids. Have you had similar experiences? We are looking forward to reading about them.
No doubt the car has come to a pivotal point with the prospect of 'driverless' and sharing cars rather than owning them. What they have in common is the more conscientious and efficient use of resources (materials, energy, time, infrastructure, the environment). In a recent interview Ford's Research & Advanced Engineering VP Ken Washington talked about what he sees as a defining factor.
Em 2011, a Estónia lançou um ambicioso programa de mobilidade elétrica a nível nacional com vista a promover a utilização de veículos elétricos (VE) no país. O programa envolvia a disponibilização de subvenções aos cidadãos para comprarem VE, a realização de campanhas de sensibilização, um projeto de partilha de automóveis elétricos e a atribuição de VE aos funcionários públicos.
As cidades europeias enfrentam desafios em termos de transportes cada vez maiores – com a poluição atmosférica local, as emissões de CO2 e os problemas de saúde a isso associados, a par do congestionamento do tráfego. 95 % dos transportes na UE são dependentes de combustíveis fósseis. A diversificação dos recursos energéticos é essencial para garantir a segurança do fornecimento de energia na UE.
