David Engwicht empowers city officials and citizens with new low-cost tools and powerful community engagement approaches to tame traffic, create vibrant places,
renew economic development, promote civility and build resilience.

Over the past year, David has distilled his thinking techniques into a simple system that helps people think outside the box – a system that will be taught in the 2013 Seminar and Workshop.

These are international training events. You will be mixing with thought leaders from Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the world.

17 April: Seminar - Introduction to Generating Creative Solutions
  • Place Making: Learn sixteen secrets to creating vibrant neighbourhoods, prosperous shopping streets, and magical public spaces. Learn techniques that will save your city significant money.
  • Dual-Spiral Thinking: How to avoid the major pitfall of traditional problem solving. Learn a system that will have you thinking outside the box – every time.
  • Agile Planning: Why so many master plans languish, gathering dust. How to deliver real outcomes for a fraction of the cost.
  • Ecology of Resilience: How to promote systemic resilience in your organisation and the wider community.
  • Meta-Stories: How meta-stories can sabotage your projects. Three strategies to change the meta-stories.
  • Citizens not Customers: Why treating residents as customers rather than citizens is resulting in poor public space. How to move to the citizen model.

18-19 April: Workshop - Generating Creative Solutions for Your Project
These two days are focused on helping you and your team apply the new thinking tools taught in the Introductory Seminar to your specific project. Your project can be anything related to a particular public space - from design to social and civic issues.
  • Uncover where you may be going wrong in your current thinking.
  • Generate out-of-the-box solutions.
  • Take home an implementable action plan.
This workshop is strictly for those who have done the Introductory Seminar or one of David’s previous Place Making Workshops.
