The Horizon 2020 project LEVITATE, which stands for ‘Societal Level Impacts of Connected and Automated Vehicles’, aims to prepare a new impact assessment framework to enable policymakers to manage the introduction of cooperative, connected and automated mobility (CCAM), maximise its benefits and utilise the technologies to achieve societal objectives. CCAM is expected to be introduced in increasing numbers over the next decades with considerable impacts on mobility, safety, the environment and society as a whole.

LEVITATE is building tools to help European cities, regions and national governments prepare for a future with increasing levels of automated vehicles in passenger cars, urban transport services and urban logistics.

The project assessed three case studies: automated urban transport, automated passenger cars and automated freight transport.

This webinar will provide an opportunity to discuss the results of the methodologies used for the impact assessment of two sub-case studies under the automated urban transport study: point-to-point automated urban shuttle service (AUSS) and on-demand AUSS that were both formulated after an extensive review of the literature and a stakeholder workshop. Several impacts were quantified on traffic, safety, the environment, and society using microscopic simulation, mesoscopic simulation, system dynamics and the Delphi method.

The following partners will present their findings: the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Loughborough University (LOUGH) and the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT).

Agenda:

  • Welcome and introduction – Andrew Morris (LOUGH) & George Yannis (NTUA) (10 mins)
  • Microscopic simulation on automated urban transport – Maria Oikonomou (NTUA) (15 mins)
  • Mesoscopic simulation on automated urban transport – Johannes Muller (AIT) (10 mins)
  • System dynamics on automated urban transport – Martin Zach (AIT) (10 mins)
  • Delphi method on automated urban transport – Julia Roussou (NTUA) (10mins)
  • Automated ridesharing – Amna Chaudhry (LOUGH) (10 mins)
  • Conclusions – George Yannis (NTUA) (5 mins)
  • Questions and feedback concerning the quantification and closing remarks – Julia Roussou (NTUA).

The webinar will take place on 23 November at 10-11.30 CET.
