ICLEI World Congress 2021 will showcase how local and regional governments across the ICLEI network, together with their partners, are advancing sustainable urban development worldwide.
The congress is now a two-part event. In 2021 we will convene virtually for high-level discussions on the strategic direction of the ICLEI Network and the contribution of local and regional governments to the UN Decade of Action. Then, in the second quarter of 2022, we will convene in person in Malmö, so far as the global health crisis permits, to actively inspire and exchange with one another on the best practices in local sustainable development, and learning first-hand from the wealth of sustainability initiatives that the City of Malmö has implemented and continues to develop.
Participants will learn about and exchange on cutting edge issues and challenges in the field of sustainable urban development. The thematic framework for the congress programme will be constructed around ICLEI’s five development pathways:
- Low emission development;
- Nature-based development;
- Circular development;
- Resilient development;
- Equitable and people-centred development.
Various session formats from high-level plenaries to workshops and networking offerings will be part of the congress program.
The first part will be held from 13-15 April 2021.
