MDS Transmodal (MDST) and the Centro di Ricerca per il Trasporto e la Logistica (CTL) at Sapienza University of Rome have been appointed by the European Commission to undertake a major study on Urban Freight Transport (UFT), with the overall aim of examining how to develop sustainable distribution in an urban context. The study is analysing the existing measures and practices that are employed in UFT and will be providing advice to the European Commission on how the European Union’s policy in this area should develop in the future.

CTL and MDST are hosting an international seminar on the subject of UFT in Rome on 24 June 2011, which will provide an opportunity to discuss likely trends in UFT up to 2030 and make a contribution to the development of future European Commission policy in this area.

The workshop will consider issues such as:
•Commercial business models for UFT, including freight consolidation
•Funding for UFT projects and measures
•The recent European Commission Transport White Paper and its relevance for UFT
•The balance between regulation and incentives in achieving UFT policy objectives
•The role of land use planning in UFT
•The appropriate policy-making role for the European Union in UFT
•The role of rail and waterborne freight in UFT
•The impact of UFT policy on urban passenger transport
•The UFT dimension in sustainable mobility plans

The number of places at the workshop is limited, so please register.
