The congress will bring together cycling specialists, academics and enthusiasts from around the world to discuss the rise of cycling and develop strategies to increase awareness and investment in this important mode of transport. The key aim is to develop effective methods for elevating the profile of cycling as a sustainable, healthy and economically viable mode of active transport.



Our exciting program, speaker list and events have been finalised.
A strong list of keynote speakers has been secured including:
  • Tim Blumenthal, Bikes Belong (USA)
  • Sara Carrigan, Olympic Cyclist (Australia)
  • Phillip Darnton, Bicycle Association of Great Britain (United Kingdom)

Concurrent presentations and workshops will be conducted under three significant themes:
  • cycleway planning, innovation and infrastructure
  • cycling promotion and travel behaviour change

It’s not all work…. An exciting program of social events and guest speakers have been organised for delegates throughout the congress. Guest speakers at these events include:
  • Phil Anderson, one of Australia’s greatest ever professional cyclists and the first Australian to win the prestigious yellow jersey in the Tour de France
  • Tim Wood, freestyle BMX champion
  • John Whitelegg, Professor of Sustainable Development at University of York’s Stockholm Environment Institute
  • Phillip Darnton, Executive Director of the Bicycle Association of Great Britain
  • Chris Scott, Paralympic cycling medalist
Celebrity facilitator Adam Spencer will host the highly anticipated hypothetical plus lunch event, to be held 20 September 2011. These events will provide a valuable opportunity to network with cycling specialists, researchers and enthusiasts from around the world.


As a pre-event to the congress the Bike & Lifestyle Show, to be held on 17 and 18 September, will showcase dozens of exhibits and stands from a wide array of cycling and lifestyle goods and service providers.
