MobiliseYourCity (MYC) is a global climate initiative for integrated urban mobility planning, and one of 15 international transport initiatives of the UN Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA).
MYC is supported by the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO), the French Ministry of Environment, Energy and The Sea (MEEM), the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM), and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
The initiative was launched as a multi-stakeholder initiative at COP21 in Paris by its founding partners ADEME, AFD, CEREMA, CODATU and GIZ. Besides contribution to the international climate process, MYC contributes to the UN’s Agenda 2030, specifically Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Objectives:
MYC is designed as a global and inclusive partnership that aims to assist beneficiary partners –i.e. national and local governments in emerging and developing countries- in their preparation of National Urban Mobility Policies and Programs (NUMPs) and Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).
It provides a framework for effective and sustainable development of urban transport. MYC’s goals for 2020:
-
20 countries commit themselves to introduce sustainable urban mobility policies and/or incentive programs
- 100 cities engage in reducing their emissions by 50% through the development of integrated sustainable urban mobility plans
MYC assists these beneficiaries to shape urbanization and transport development in a sustainable and climate-friendly manner. Mitigation measures are prepared through integrated planning and consultation with different stakeholders at an early stage.
The MYC initiative supports budgeting, development of financial mechanisms and initiation of national and international funding to ensure successful implementation.
