Urban mobility planning

Abbonamento a RSS - Urban mobility planning

Good planning helps choosing and designing the right measures, or packages of measures, for a city’s particular transport context, and getting them off the ground.

A Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) – a strategic plan designed to satisfy the mobility needs of people and businesses in cities and their surroundings for a better quality of life - can play a big role in this regard. To discover more about these plans, visit the dedicated Mobility Plans section on Eltis.

EC Urban Mobility Video

The Urban Mobility Video is a three-minute film that explains the approach of the European Commission about urban mobility. It starts with a problem-setting part in which, without voice-over, difficult urban mobility situation are shown in slow motion: a cyclist hit by a car, a woman in a crowded bus that has to brake suddenly, a man in his car who can't stand the traffic jams, emissions and noise anymore, pedestrians who do not have enough space to walk on the pavement etc.

Do you work in the field of sustainable mobility? Please share your experience!

Forums:

I have created a survey intended for individuals and organizations, who are concerned with Sustainable Mobility and Urban Development. The survey seeks to gain key insights into which factors best support change (modal shift) in cities, by better understanding the priorities, strategies and experiences of all who are concerned with this topic.

How many European cities have SUMPs?

Forums:

in the context of the starting European H2020 project MOBLITY4EU, I would like to know how many cities in Europe have developed SUMPs. Our first step in the project is identifying "societal trends" that have an impact on mobility/transport. Is there a dynamic in the domain of SUMPs, do many more cities develop such strategies that European institution want to see more and more developed?
Ideally I would like to get a live statistics, like those run by Eurostat or Urban Audit. I know I am a dreamer.

Bristol, Europe’s Green Capital in 2015, unveils city toolkit

Forums:

In 2015, the city of Bristol has been Europe’s Green Capital. This was also an outcome of 40 years of environmental efforts with great progress in many areas. Now, Bristol is willing to help other cities around the world to “go green” by sharing its experience and knowledge about sustainability at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21). The city is doing this through a free online toolkit called The Bristol Method (https://www.bristol2015.co.uk/method/) which documents everything Bristol has learnt from its year as European Green Capital so other cities can benefit.

TOD Standard - Urban design

Forums:

The TOD Standard is a powerful tool to help shape and assess urban development. It focuses on maximizing the benefits of public transit and non-motorized mobility while placing the emphasis firmly back on the users: people.
