Luxembourg to inaugurate Europe’s longest cycling bridge

By Claus Köllinger / Updated: 22 Dec 2022

Luxembourg is extending its cycling path network from the current 600 km to 950 km. On 23 December 2022, a large infrastructure investment to the express bicycle path between the Capital and the university campus of Belval is being inaugurated.

The EUR 47.5 million project includes a 1.2 km long cycling and walking bridge at a hight of 7.5 m above ground, which is the longest bridge of its kind according to the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works.

This traffic-related investment also includes a tunnel section as an underpass to railway tracks, and 1.2 hectares of landscaping and green space creation.

Whilst the extended cycling path opens this year, its completion will be in 2025 when works on the ramps for people with reduced mobility, as well as lifts and stairs at the Belval side of the connection, are completed.
