Results from the EU-funded TRANSFORuM project, which contributed to the transformation of the European transport system towards better competitiveness and resource efficiency, are now available.
Building on the European Commission's 2011 Transport White Paper, the project engaged and consulted with key stakeholders to identify challenges, barriers, trends, and opportunities in shaping the future European transport system.
The project focussed particularly on four of the White Paper's ten goals: clean urban transport and CO2-free logistics; shifting freight to rail and waterborne transport; completion and maintenance of Europe's high-speed rail network; and a European multimodal information, management and payment system.
The results include roadmaps for achieving short‐ to mid‐term goals, policy recommendations and a long-term strategic outlook, and are relevant for a wide audience including practitioners, planners, politicians and the public.
