Smart bus stops coming to Prostějov (Czech Republic)

By Lewis Macdonald / Updated: 04 Jul 2016

The city of Prostějov in eastern Czech Republic will receive panels displaying real-time information on its bus stops.

A total of 102 panels will be attached to 53 bus stops, allowing passengers to see when their next bus will arrive. This will be based on transmitters that monitor the position of buses and a system that will calculate their expected arrival time.

The panels will be introduced gradually over three phases. Areas which will receive priority attention are stops on routes shared by a number of different bus lines, as well as bus stops at the local hospital.

The city will fund the estimated project cost of 12 million Czech koruna ( € 443 000) with the help of state subsidies, which are projected to account for 85 per cent of the total. The funding will come primarily from the Czech Ministry for Regional Development.
