Share cargo bikes via the web (Germany and Austria)

By Raf Canters / Updated: 01 Aug 2014
The German association “Anstiftung & Ertomis” has created a new website that enables users to locate, describe and publish cargo bicycles, bike trailers and other bicycle transport aids that can be borrowed free of charge. The site contains entries from cities in Germany and Austria.
The transport of children in either bicycle trailers or cargo bikes has become a familiar sight in many European cities. More and more cargo bikes and trailers are also used for the transport of private goods. The advantage compared to motorised vans is that bikes can be used in car free zones and take up less space, and their use does not require the possession of a driving licence.

However, cargo bikes are quite expensive and therefore it makes little sense to purchase one if it is only required once or twice a year. This is where the new website comes in.

People who own a cargo bike or a bike trailer and are willing to share them with others free of charge can enter the location and the specifications of the bicycle or trailer on www.lara.webinprogress.de. Owners of bikes and trailers in cities in Germany and Austria can be contacted via e-mail or phone.
