The urban community of Nice-Côte d Azur aims to launch a 100% electric car-sharing scheme in 2011. It will consist of more than 200 cars, spread over 70 stations in Nice, Saint-Laurent-du Var and Cagnes-sur-Mer.The scheme will be launched in April 2011, making Nice the first French local authority to launch such a scheme on this scale. Setting up the car sharing service will cost €40,000 per station, totalling €2.8 million for the full scheme. Fifty percent of the cost will be financed by Nice-Côte d Azur, the other half by the State.

The car fleet will be composed of Peugeot Ion’s, Citroen Berlingo Venturi’s and Mia Electric SAS Mia’s. To encourage users, the service will target employees and offer them free parking for car sharing vehicles. As well as enticing people to travel more sustainably, it is hoped the scheme will reduce the number of second-car households.
