Montreal transport company, the ‘Société de transport de Montreal’ (STM) has announced that it is about to sell the name of Montreal metro lines to companies in order to raise new revenues. The orange, green, blue and yellow lines should soon take the name of private companies and brands.

‘Naming’ has been used so far for sports arenas mainly. New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority introduced it in public transport last year when it sold the name of a metro station, proving it was pursuing actively this option to raise revenues. Montreal transport company is now following this example and plan to extend it to metro lines.

STM expects to seal a deal on naming line(s) around the new Year. It considers that it would allow some major companies to strengthen their presence in an environment such as the metro which guarantees a great exposure to potential customers.

This initiative is one of several of the new STM business plan which requires increasing the revenues from the sell of advertising spaces and the rental of shopping spaces. It plans to double the revenues from these activities, which also include real estate operations, in the next four years.
