Key performance indicators for traffic management and intelligent transport systems

The latest tool available to download on the Tools for Practitioners section of Eltis is key performance indicators for traffic management and intelligent transport system produced by the CONDUIT project.
Cities today face many common transport problems and implement similar urban traffic management solutions, with Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) playing a prominent role. However, in the absence of a set of widely accepted performance measures and transferable methodologies, it is very difficult for a city to objectively assess the effects of specific applications (policies and technologies) and to make use of lessons learnt from other cities.

CONDUITS is a two-year project with strong city involvement which will develop a number of tools to assist local authorities in making investment decisions about ITS. One of these tools is a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which provides practitioners with a common evaluation framework for the performance of traffic management and ITS and gives guidelines to its application.
