In Lyon trolleybus line number C1 has been extended with the end of the line now situated at ?Place Jules Ferry ? Cuire?. There is an interchange facility with the underground railway number M. The new part of trolleybus line provides 7 additional stations with a service running every 7 to 10 minutes between 5 am to 12.30am. Trolleybuses are given priority over car traffic at traffic lights. As a consequence the inhabitants of the quarters Caluire and plateau de la Croix-Rousse can reach the centre of Lyon in a shorter time.

The extension of the line was intended to further increase the role of the trolleybuses in the city to reduce the burden on the main traffic routes from cars by ensuring an attractive alternative to access the main area of the city. The project was completed in 11 months with building costs of ?15.000.000. A project called ?Autobus? ensures there are concrete plans to keep on improving the public transport in the outer areas ?Caluire? and ?Pateau de la Croix-Rousse?.
