€590m for urban rail projects in France

The French Government has allotted €590m for 78 urban transport projects in 54 conurbations outside the Paris region. The package includes funding for 29 light rail projects in 11 cities and the construction of 152km of new lines.

The French Government has allotted €590m for 78 urban transport projects in 54 conurbations outside the Paris region. The package includes funding for 29 light rail projects in 11 cities and the construction of 152km of new lines.

Some of the major projects funded include: €54m for Nice Line 2, €36m for the Bruay - Béthune - Beuvry line, €30.6m for Besancon Line 1 and €19.3m towards four extensions in Lyon. Projects in Bordeaux, Marseilles, Nantes, Montpelier, Strasbourg, Toulouse and Tours also received grants for urban rail projects.

Rennes will receive €90.7m from the government for the construction of Metro Line B, while €9.1m is allocated for the upgrade of Metro Line 1 in the city of Lille.
