Burgas is creating a € 9.3m intelligent transport system to make its public transport safer and more efficient and convenient.
The contract for implementing the system, awarded by public tender to Romania’s UTI Group, was signed in late February.
Financed by Burgas, the European Regional Development Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the project will increase the attractiveness and comfort of the current system, provide real-time information for passengers and increase safety.
The project will also introduce integrated ticketing and video surveillance on Burgas’s public transport system and reduce ticket fraud.
‘We are glad that we are developing a major project in Bulgaria, and this confirms the adaptability of our solutions in every market,’ said Mihail Tănăsescu, UTI Vice President.
‘We will help transform Burgas into a smart city, adapted to the requirements of modern public transport that are so necessary for a city with such great tourism potential.’
