A new ‘driverless’ metro line (“Cityringen”), in Copenhagen, Denmark will begin operation in 2018.

A new ‘driverless’ metro line (“Cityringen”), in Copenhagen, Denmark will begin operation in 2018. Finmeccanica unit Ansaldo has secured a € 700m contract to build a new metro line in Copenhagen, Denmark. The metro line will be underground, automated and will extend for 16km, connecting 17 stations. Under the contract, Ansaldo will plan and construct power and communications systems, platform-edge doors, signalling, carriages, and a depot and control centre.

The contract also includes operation and maintenance for five years, with the option for a further three years. The carriages will be supplied by AnsaldoBreda, which is also part of the Finmeccanica Group.
