Buying tickets via mobile phone in Lodz (Poland)

By Jan Christiaens / Updated: 01 Aug 2014
The authorities of Lodz in central Poland now provide residents with a convenient method of buying tickets for public transport services via mobile phone. Similar systems are already working in several Polish cities.
The payment platform for mobile phones is called SkyCash and already works well in the cities of Wroclaw, Lublin, Bydgoszcz and the capital Warsaw, among others. Users of the system can buy a ticket from anywhere, 24 hours a day, at the same price as tickets sold at conventional points of sale.

The procedure for purchasing tickets via mobile phone is very intuitive. The free SkyCash application has to be installed and run on a mobile phone. The type of ticket is then selected and the purchase confirmed by entering a 4-digit PIN code. In the event of ticket inspection the ticket can be recalled onto the mobile display.

The system also allows immediate transfers between users, prepaid mobile recharge, withdrawals at ATMs without the need for a card, purchase of games, music and books, and other online payments.
