Kick-off Workshop - CIVITAS SUMPs-Up Learning Programme 3

The first of three workshops in the third SUMP Learning Programme (SLP) will take place in Bucharest, Romania.

A full day of SUMP learning activities awaits the 20 participants from the SLP 3 group. After a round of introductions, a keynote presentation on the challenges of reducing car traffic will set the scene for the rest of the day's activities.

Four of the cities taking part in the SLP - Loulé (Portugal), Cesis (Latvia), Granollers, (Spain), and Fabriano, (Italy) - will describe the varying SUMP situations that they find themselves in.

Updated parking fees in Bucharest

New tariffs for parking facilities administered by the Bucharest’s City Hall entered into force on 01 July 2018; the cost of parking fees in the center of Bucharest has risen by up to 10 lei, per hour.

Environmental organisations and activists in Bucharest welcomed this measure, explaining that the limit values set by EU air quality legislation have been exceeded in the capital city, and one of the causes leading to this situation is intense traffic and congestion.

The Romanian Government allocates funds to renew public transport fleet across the country

Last week the Romanian Government approved the funding of more than €400 million of European funds to provide brand new trams, trolleybuses and electric buses across the country. Funds will also encompass recharging points and intelligent transport equipment – as well as upgrading the current fleet of school buses used by municipalities and local administrations across the country to Diesel Euro 6.

One of the main aims of CIVITAS PROSPERITY is to support and promote the take-up of SUMP especially in countries / regions and cities where the take up of this planning approach is low so far. CIVITAS PROSPERITY identifies interesting personalities that act as SUMP ambassadors. They offer a clear message on why SUMPs are so important, hence they motivate others to take the next step as well.

Modernisation of the tram fleet in Oradea

The Romanian Government has submitted the project "Modernization of the Tram Park in Oradea - Stage 1", through the 2014-2020 Regional Operational Programme. As reported in the Urban Mobility Plan of the Municipality of Oradea and within the Integrated Urban Development Strategy, it is one of the priority projects being identified.
