Bus Ecodrive in region Emila Romagna (Italy)

A new, economically and ecologically sustainable, driving practice will be adopted by Emilia-Romagna bus drivers allowing conspicuous cuts on CO2 emissions and fuel consumptions.

This new program, presented on 5th February 2010 by the councilor of Mobility in cooperation with Euromobility, Click utility, Actm and two local public transport companies, is called “Ecoguida”. The aim of the initiative is to maximize the effort spent to improve the efficiency of the new low emission bus fleet (e.g. vehicles powered by natural gas upgraded from 2% to 18%) with “best practices” of ecodrive.

The idea came from a questionnaire addressed to the main public transport companies in the region concerning use (mileage, urban and suburban use) and composition of the bus fleet grouped by emissions types, fuel types and yearly consumption. From this database an estimation of CO2 emission was calculated and the impact of public on environment from public transport was evaluated. Since the balance of CO2 equivalent emissions (taking into account mainly NOx, NH3 and CO2) amounts to 470.000 tonnes, with the effective application of EcoGuida techniques a reduction of 5% up to 15% on CO2 emissions is expected in the next future.
