ADVANCE guidelines - auditing sustainable urban mobility plans

By Lewis Macdonald / Updated: 30 Jul 2015

As Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and associated principles and methodologies become better known across Europe, it is important to ensure that the development and implementation of SUMPs can deliver the improvements and benefits that they promise. Therefore, it is good practice to audit SUMPs to maximise their potential.

The ADVANCE project has developed guidelines and a questionnaire that cities can use to measure the performance of their SUMP. The guidelines show how the assessment process works at each step and includes detailed descriptions of all aspects of the audit. Cities can also be assessed by an ADVANCE auditor and receive certification demonstrating the city's ambitions and commitment to sustainable urban mobility planning.
