Transport Research Arena 2018
Subtitle: "A digital era for transport"
Digitisation, automatisation and decarbonisation are major trends that will drastically change the way we live, work and use mobility and transport in the future.
From 16th -19th April 2018, Europe's biggest Transport Research Conference, the Transport Research Arena, (TRA 2018) will take place in Vienna, Austria. Under the motto "a digital era for transport - solutions for society, economy and environment", around 3,000 international experts will discuss about the latest research results and future developments, exploring, discussing and demonstrating the major paradigm shifts specifically directed at important areas of our life, such as transport, mobility, logistics and industrial production.
With a share of 7.7% of the GDP and an average R&D rate of 12%, the transport industry is not only vital to Austria, but is a major driving force for the whole European economy. To address the great challenges of the future mobility system, Austria has been running specific national transport related research programmes for a long time, which are effectively combined with the relevant research and technology programmes of the European Union.
The Transport Research Arena (TRA), initiated in 2006, takes place every two years in another European city. The TRA is supported by the European Commission, the European Technology Platforms ERTRAC (European Road Transport Research Advisory Council), ERRAC (European Rail Research Advisory Council), WATERBORNE as well as CEDR (Conference of European Directors of Roads) and ALICE (Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration). This year the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology, the Austrian Institute of Technology and AustriaTech are also involved in this seventh edition of TRA 2018.
