The public transport company of the Romanian City Timișoara has announced plans to rehabilitate and extend seven tram lines in the city.
Representatives from Regia Autonomă de Transport Timișoara (RATT) presented the plan as part of a strategic investment plan for 2017-2020.
The investment plan includes a broad range of proposals, including the construction of a bicycle workshop, a new dispatcher's office, modernisation of bus stations, a new intermodal transport hubs, improvements to port infrastructure and more.
RATT officials are moving ahead with the plans despite recent clashes with city officials. The Mayor of Timișoara, Nicolae Robu, had recently called for the resignation of RATT management due to disagreements about operation and financing of the city's public transport.
Funding for the investments laid out in the new plan will be requested from the city hall. RATT will also seek EU funding to supplement city contributions.
