By Raf Canters / Updated: 01 Aug 2014
The Synaptic Awards serve as a catalyst for innovative action in the field of urban and regional transport in European cities and regions, and the sharing of innovative practices.
In 2013, Synaptic Awards were granted in the following three categories: 1. The best multimodal door-to-door solution 2. The best public transport solution and 3. The best mobility management solution. All European mobility projects submitted to the Eltis European mobility database in the applicable categories during 2012 (over 200 in total) were eligible for the award.

An innovative character, cost effectiveness, level and quality of stakeholder involvement, a focus on the passenger perspective, impact on climate and appropriateness to the local context were the key criteria for the awards. Furthermore all entries were benchmarked against the criteria identified as success factors for implementing seamless mobility solutions and related advanced IT.

Entries were judged on 20 February in Brussels. Jury members were ambassadors of the Synaptic vision for seamless mobility in Europe, which made the jury discussion important for policy making.
