    In the ‘80s public transport vehicles served 80% of daily travel needs in Budapest. The 80-20% ratio had changed to 60-40% by the end of the ‘90s due to the rapid development of motorization. Nowadays, it is a roughly 50-50% split. To try to regain some of this lost ground, the city has been busy installing new bus priority including, for the first time, a coloured bus lane to deter cars from driving in the bus lane.
