Workshop presents ICT solutions for mobility impaired (Spain)


Madrid City Council together with the EU-funded SIMON mobility project hosted a seminar last week to present applications and services that can help people with disabilities and elderly people with mobility and parking.

Some 100 people attended the seminar, including mobility managers and representatives from Spanish public authorities and associations.

Santander to introduce hybrid buses into municipal fleet (Spain)


Transportes Urbanos de Santander (TUS), the municipal transport operator of Santander, is to incorporate six new hybrid buses into its fleet, continuing the process of modernising its vehicles into more sustainable and efficient vehicles.

Santander’s Councillor for the Environment and Sustainable Mobility, Jose Ignacio Quirós, said last week that the vehicles are expected to enter service early next year.

The city is also taking steps to acquire articulated vehicles to coincide with the completion of its Metro-TUS infrastructure project.

CIVITAS summer course opens registration


The CIVITAS Initiative is running a three-day summer course from 7 - 10 June in the Spanish city of Málaga.

The course will look at sustainable urban mobility in the context of quality of life in cities. There is great potential for sustainable urban mobility to contribute to making cities more pleasant places in which to live and spend time, with positive impacts on the environment, local economy, and even the physical and mental health of residents.

San Sebastian waste collection now with e-trikes (Spain)


In San Sebastian, the company which is responsible for waste collection and street cleaning will work from now on with electric tricycles.

San Sebastian, partner in the Cyclelogistics project, continues to be a front-runner on the use of sustainable vehicles.

The city recently presented its new cleaning plant, which brings the total of used vehicles to clean the streets and collect waste to 116.

CIVITAS training: Urban freight and the sustainable city

The CIVITAS Initiative is organising a free training on urban freight and logistics at the 8th European Sustainable Cities and Towns Conference in Bilbao (Spain) from 27 - 29 April 2016. The training will take place on the day before the start of the conference on 26 April.

Professionals involved in the development and implementation of urban freight policies are the target audience for the training.
