Deadline approaches for European Green Leaf Award applications

The application deadline for the European Green Leaf Award is now fast approaching, with 18 October the last day for submissions.

To celebrate the tenth year of the European Green Capital competition, the European Commission will for the first time award a financial prize to the winner of the European Green Leaf 2019 title.

The European Green Leaf Award, established in 2015, recognised and commends the work of smaller cities in driving environmental change. Previous winners include Mollet del Vallès (Spain), Torres Vedras (Portugal), and Galway (Ireland).

CIVITAS Forum 2017: Small Communities, Big Ideas

From 27-29 September, close to 500 participants convened in Torres Vedras, Portugal, for the 15th CIVITAS Forum. A diverse community of policy makers, practitioners, academics, and city representatives debated the most pressing issues surrounding sustainable urban mobility, and set out clear pathways for bringing cleaner, better transport to Europe.

Study finds policy changes can impact on the EV market

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) has released a new study on fiscal incentives and electric vehicle sales, finding a high correlation of financial inducement and the purchase of an electric vehicle.

Eight countries were included in the study: France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and the UK.

The researchers performed a pairwise comparison of the total cost of ownership and electric car sales in the countries, allowing for cross-segment and cross-country comparison in the European countries.

New CIVITAS Tool Inventory online

Maja Bakran Marcich, the Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate General of Mobility and Transport, and Carlos Manuel Antunes Bernardes, joined forces to reveal the new online database.

With over 100 tools and methods related to urban mobility, the Tool Inventory will help local authorities make better informed decisions about which planning tools to apply in their given local context.

New European Commission tool analyses transport innovation effectiveness

The European Commission (EC) has launched a new tool for analysing transport innovation effectiveness, the Transport Research and Innovation Monitoring and Information System (TRIMIS).

TRIMIS maps and assesses technology trends and research and innovation capacities across Europe’s transport sector. At its heart sits a comprehensive and open-access database of transport projects and programmes, alongside transport technologies and innovations.

Coming soon: an app for choosing the optimum green transport route (EU)

A new platform funded by the LIFE programme, the European Commission’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action, will allow its users to choose travel routes based upon their environmental impact.  The main aim of Green Your Move (GYM) is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage users to take energy-efficient transport.
