What's happening in ELTIS

New teaching and training materials for higher educational institutions will be available soon:

ELTIS will start to update teaching and training materials for 10 topics in urban transport. Two new materials for topics ("non motorised transport" and "alternative fuels and vehicles") will be designed. The materials will be available in summer 2007.

Training programme for mid career transport professionals from new member states and accession countries free of charge is being carried out from 30th of May until 1st of June 2007.

The first course of this training programme will be held in Graz, Austria. The duration is 2 ½ days. 3 topics will be presented - each one for ½ day. The last day is for site visits. The topics are: Parking Space Management
Alternative fuels and new vehicle technologies
Mobility management and travel awareness.

Participation is free of charge. Places are limited, so book early. To register, please e-mail Gabor Heves from the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC)

On Friday 22 December 2006, the European Commission has announced the 2007 CIVITAS call for proposals. Deadline of the CIVITAS-Plus call is May 3, 2007.

Trams return to Paris (France)
The mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, rode the first tram on the new T3 line. This is the first tram that has run in Paris since 1937. The modern electric tramline does a section of the city's inner ring road and is intend to offer 100,000 Parisians environmentally-friendly public transport.

Free car-sharing for people with a bus season ticket (Flanders, Belgium)
The Flemish Minister of Mobility, Kathleen Van Brempt, wants to promote car-sharing. Everybody with a pre-paid bus season ticket will also be offered also a free pass for cambio, the local carsharing club.

She has been working as a sustainable transport policy expert at the Tallinn Centre of Stockholm Environment Institute and Friends of the Earth Estonia: mainly on projects regarding strategic environmental assessment of transport plans, public awareness etc.

She also edits an Estonian website www.autovaba.ee, which is dedicated to public awareness raising on sustainable transport policies and car-free mobility.
